RC gifts: plan the whole first run
RCCritic is research-led: we use maker data and published sources. We have not done hands-on tests yet.
Buy the whole first run, not just the car.
Budget groups use current listings and USD maker list prices read 2026-11-04; taxes, shipping, batteries and chargers can add cost. Models are sorted by price, then model ID. These groups are not performance rankings.

What does the maker say about age?
The GORGON and SCX24 Base Camp manuals say these are not toys and are not for children under 14. Do not assume all models share the same age label: for other records, age guidance is not published here. Check the exact box and manual before choosing a gift.
For a supervised first setup, compare an included-battery package, reduced throttle options and the available driving space. An adult should manage charging. “Kid-friendly entry” is our package filter, not permission to ignore maker ages.

What should go on the rest of the shopping list?
Check drive battery, charger, wall power supply, transmitter batteries and a suitable running location. Add the maker-approved LiPo charging container where required. The exact model page lists captured separate purchases.
Ready for the first charge?
Get the one-page LiPo safety and charging checklist, or the first RC car checklist.

Use the exact model code when checking a maker page. The read date is a record of our research, not a promise that a listing stays unchanged.
