Indoor: choose the right RC type

RCCritic is research-led: we use maker data and published sources. We have not done hands-on tests yet.

For a home obstacle course, start with a small crawler. We filter current RTR crawlers to 1/24 and 1/18 with a published length; a drift track is a separate use case.

What works here, and what should you avoid?

Protect furniture and keep clear of pets, stairs and people. Charge batteries in the maker-approved location, away from combustible material.

Check dimensions, the maker manual and permission for the location before your first run. A shortlist cannot establish that a particular site is safe or legal.

Which models span the published budgets?

Current RTR/RTF listing, matching type, scale 1/24, 1/18, published length. Sort by USD maker list price, then choose the lowest, middle and highest record. Equal prices sort by model ID. This is a repeatable shortlist, not a performance ranking. Battery and charger costs are extra where shown.

Choose two to four models.

Which other exact models meet the rule?

Exact model packages. Maker sources read 2026-11-04. Prices exclude separate purchases.

Which sources support this page?

Use the exact model code when checking a maker page. The read date is a record of our research, not a promise that a listing stays unchanged.
